Recruiting Spotlight: RB Marcus Marshall

Can the Deacs lockdown the talented North Carolina running back?

Student Sports

Marcus Marshall is a 5'9 200lb running back from Raleigh, NC and younger brother of current Georgia running back Keith Marshall. As a junior Marcus played in 8 games and accounted for 1000 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 250 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns and took 2 kick offs to the house. Marcus currently holds offers from Boston College, Connecticut, N.C. State, as well as the Deacs.

The first thing that sticks out when watching Marshall's tape is that he can absolutely fly. This is no mirage as his recorded 40-yard dash time is 4.45. Though Marshall can throw on the burners and blow by the secondary he isn't necessarily just a speed back. One of his most compelling attributes is his ability to turn that speed into power, putting one foot into the ground and shifting past or through defenders at full speed. Another underrated aspect of Marshall's game is his pass catching ability, used on both designed routes and quarterback bailouts.

Marshall has all the tools to have a break out senior season and I am glad coach Clawson has caught onto his ability early. I believe his versatility would provide a unique element to the offense and would fill a desperate need at running back. I really hope Marcus decides to join Kendall Hinton, Tabari Hines, Dionte Austin, Jake Bargas and the rest of a very promising 2015 class.
