For the second straight season, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have made their way into the top 10 in the AP Top 25.
Hey, hey, hey ... it's the Week 9 AP Poll

1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Tennessee
4. Michigan
5. Clemson
6. Alabama
7. TCU
8. Oregon
9. Oklahoma State
T10. USC
T10. Wake Forest
At 6-1, Wake Forest is currently tied with the USC Trojans for the 10th best team in the nation per the AP Top 25 poll. While it does seem kind of unlikely that with 62 voters nationwide, we would wind up with a tie, I will absolutely take it if it means being a top 10 team. The Deacs were voted as high as 8 in the latest poll by the Durham Herald-Sun’s Steve Wiseman and as low as 17th by the Omaha World Herald’s Sam McKewon (cut him some slack, he has to cover Nebraska).
The last time Wake cracked the Top 10, they went on the road against an unranked UNC team the next week and suffered their first loss of the season. While Wake has already lost a game this season, the Deacs are once again on the road against an unranked opponent this weekend, so they will need to be careful not to buy into their own hype and let history repeat itself. Louisville has been looking much better the past few weeks, and a top 10 ranking puts a huge target on the Deacs going forward.
I can never say this enough, but what an incredible job Dave Clawson has done building this program. After never being ranked in the Top 10 in the entire history of the program, Clawson has now managed to do it in back-to-back seasons. If anyone had predicted that after Wake went 3-9 in 2014 and 2015, I don’t think any of us would have believed it. Clawson has brought us into the golden age of Wake Forest football, and all we need to do is sit back and enjoy it.
Go Deacs!
