According to the team over at Pro Football Focus, Wake Forest starting QB Sam Hartman is the 21st best quarterback in the nation heading into the 2021 football season. You can find the complete list in the tweet below.
RANKING ALL 130 COLLEGE QBs
— PFF College (@PFF_College) July 12, 2021
1. Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma
3. D'Eriq King, Miami
20. C.J. Stroud, Ohio State
32. Jack Coan, Notre Damehttps://t.co/PSxjQe0nsA
Finishing the often hectic 2020 football season completing 58% of his passes for 2,220 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 9 games, Hartman was categorized in tier 2 as a “high ceiling quarterback.” That’s very high praise considering that tier 1 consists of just 1 player. The analysis notes that in his first 7 games—in which he completed 63% of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 0 interceptions—he scored an 87.4 passer grade. While I have no idea how PFF calculates that stat, I will note that Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, the lone tier 1 QB, finished 2020 with a 92.5 passer grade. Obviously, Hartman’s grade for the full season was significantly affected by the final 2 games of 2020, but we should probably all just forget about those anyways, since the season was completely disrupted by a month long covid break.
Looking ahead at the 2021 football schedule, here is where Wake’s opponent’s projected starting QBs ranked on the list:
- #127 Hayden Wolff, ODU
- #16: McKenzie Milton, FSU
- #18: Brennan Armstrong, UVA
- #34 Malik Cunningham, Louisville
- #95 Tommy DeVito, Syracuse
- #115 Christian Anderson, Army
- #124 Gunnar Holmberg, Duke
- #44 Devin Leary, NC State
- #8: D.J. Uiagalelei, Clemson
- #30 Phil Jurkovec, BC
Since this is a preseason list and is mostly based upon how players performed last year, it is, of course, mostly just conjecture. But since the Deacs scored very highly, I am going to take it as 100% fact and state that it looks like the Deacs should have an advantage in most of their games this season at the quarterback position. I guess we will find out soon, as football season is right around the corner. As always, Go Deacs!
