2nd week down in June, what’s happened?

New Offers

Football: 2023 QB RJ Johnson, 2023 CB Chris Peal

Cam’s take: For football, Wake taking a small class(i’d be stunned if it was closer to 20 than 15) has played a role in the offer count being low, as well as them sitting pretty with a lot of their top targets right now: Eli Hall, Wesley Grimes, Miguel Mitchell, etc. For basketball, it’s just a smaller sport in terms of bodies and you’re not going to see Forbes make throwaway offers LIKE SOME PEOPLE.

Faces on Campus

Some names that were taking visits last week

Basketball: 2022 CG MJ Collins, 2022 C Patrick Wessler, 2023 PF GG Jackson, 2022 PF De’Ante Green(Official), 2023 PF Amani Hansberry

Football: 2022 WR Tyler Johnson, 2023 QB Christoper Vizzina, 2022 OT Bradley Mann, 2022 S Jackson Vick, 2022 DT Jalen Swindell, 2023 Pierce Clarkson, 2023 QB RJ Johnson

Cam’s Take: On the basketball side of things we really saw a heavy emphasis on big men. I’m not shocked to see a guy like MJ Collins not get an offer yet as the evaluation period is coming soon, but it was very important to get guys like Patrick Wessler and De’Ante Green on campus and solidify their positions with them.

For football, they seem pretty locked in with their targets. A clear top three of Tyler Johnson, Wesley Grimes and Jaden Watkins at receiver as those three, as of right now, are the only receivers to visit outside of camps. Jackson Vick committed to NC State on Monday, so he’s off the board but that went alongside Zamari Stevenson committing. Jalen Swindell jumping in the boat especially bodes well given signs are pointing well for 4-Star Eli Hall after canceling his other visits.

Who’s Next?

Visits this week:

Basketball: 2022 PG BJ Edwards(official), 2022 C Christ Essandoko

Football: 2022 WR Jaden Watkins(official), 2022 OT Derrell Johnson, 2022 WR Wesley Grimes(official)

Cam’s Take: While BJ Edwards seems like a heavy Tennessee lean, getting him on campus means the staff won’t be going down without a fight. Meanwhile hometown big man Christ Essandoko has been blowing up in terms of offers but Wake at the moment has to feel good about their chances.

Getting Watkins and Grimes on campus for the second time is a big deal, and Wake has to knock it out of the park here to land some top North Carolina talent. Derrell Johnson may be coming to a decision soon, and I like where Wake stands at the moment with him. Wake could see a few more decisions come by/after the weekend.
