Overnight, we’ve learned that Wake Forest junior forward Ody Oguama will put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Playing in 20 games, starting 18, Oguama averaged 7.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Ody has always been regarded as a guy, who maybe isn’t the most technically sound basketball player, but is one that will leave it all out of the floor. His motor just never stopped, which was always great for effort plays, second-chance points, and just general morale. However. he struggled to stay out of foul trouble from game to game and was working on refining the more delicate parts of his game.

This is the taketh part of the Transfer Portal, as Wake still has 3 talented players coming in with Damari Monsanto, Jake LaRavia, and Dallas Walton all signed and enrolling in the Summer. What’s tough is this is a major hit to the depth at the 5. While I’m personally a large fan of Tariq Ingraham, we’ve yet to see a full season from him. We also saw last year what happened when Wake only had 2 bigs, and it wasn’t pretty so it appears grabbing a body to spot 10-12 minutes when you need it will be on the table for the staff.

This is the first one that really comes as a shock. They had just finished up conditioning and there seemed to be a collective buy-in moving forward, so a move like this is a bit stunning.

Best of luck to Ody, though. He always represented the Old Gold and Black well, and just as we celebrate the guys who leave their team to join ours, we should cheer for those who were once part of Mother So Dear and choose to depart.

We’ll have more updates as they come.
