Sophomore Ismael Massoud Enters Transfer Portal

The Deacs are losing their sixth transfer

The Deacs are losing another player to the transfer portal. Sophomore Forward Ismael Massoud has officially entered his name into the portal and will transfer from Wake Forest.

Massoud finished the 2020-21 season averaging 8.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. He started the season off shooting the ball incredibly well from deep, shooting 42% from beyond the arc in Wake’s first 11 games of the season. Unfortunately, Massoud seemingly struggled in the second half of the season; the sophomore averaged 5.7 points per game and shot just 23% from downtown in Wake’s final 11 games.

Massoud’s best game as a Deac was undoubtedly his 31 point performance this season when he led the Deacs to their first conference win of the Steve Forbes era against Pitt. He hit 8 out of his 10 3-point attempts in that game.

Massoud becomes the sixth Wake Forest player to transfer this offseason, joining Jahcobi Neath, Emmanuel Okpomo, Quadry Adams, Isaiah Wilkins, and Blake Buchanan. That gives Wake Forest five scholarship to potentially fill between now and the beginning of the season in November. With signing day starting on April 14th, it is pretty late in the game for Forbes and the staff to grab a few freshman for the 2021 class. Unless the Deacs are able to get a high school player that decommits between now and August 1st, Wake is going to have to rely heavily on the transfer portal to fill out the roster.
