Wake Forest Women’s Basketball Tips Off Tonight Against Mercer

The Deacs are back in action

NCAA Basketball: ACC Tip Off Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Wake Forest Women’s Basketball Team is back in action tonight after an incredible run in the 2020-21 season that resulted in the programs second ever NCAA Tournament berth. The Deacs open the season on the road against the Mercer Bears at 7pm on ESPN+.

Despite the departure of last season’s top players Ivana Raca (playing professionally in Italy) and Gina Conti (transferred to UCLA), the Deacs return 11 players from last year’s squad. Among the returning players are senior Christina Morra, who averaged 10.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season, and sophomore Jewel Spear, who was named to the All-ACC Freshman team with 10.9 points and 1.1 assists per game last season and spent the offseason winning a gold medal for Team USA. Wake also added some needed depth in the interior with Utah transfer Niyah Becker—Becker averaged 5.9 points and 3.7 rebounds in 21 games with the Utes last season.

The quest for back to back NCAA Tournament berths starts tonight. Go Deacs!
