Wake Forest Lands Three on ACC Players of the Week List

Three Deacs grab some recognition from the ACC

Three Wake Forest football players have been honored by the ACC as Players of the Week after taking down the Army Black Knights 70-56 on Saturday.

Redshirt Sophomore Sam Hartman was the obvious choice at the quarterback position after finishing the game in West Point with one of the most ridiculous stat lines in college football this season. Hartman completed 23 of his 29 pass attempts (79.3%) for 458 yards and 5 touchdowns, giving him a 98.0 QBR (the max is 100). He also added a rushing touchdown in the win, giving him as many total touchdowns on the day (6) as incomplete passes. That’s pretty good.

Redshirt Sophomore Rondell Bothroyd was the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week; he finished the game against Army with 10 total tackles, 1 sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Traveon Redd was honored with the ACC Defensive Back of the Week due to his game changing interception, which he promptly returned 83 yards for a touchdown. That was one of the better defensive plays I have ever seen, as Redd essentially covered two players in what appeared to be a busted coverage and finished it off with a touchdown. He also added 7 total tackles in the winning effort.

One does have to wonder how an offense that scored 70 points and racked up over 600 yards of total offense only landed one player on this list. Jaquarii Roberson had a huge game with 8 catches for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns and was, in my opinion, snubbed from this list.

Congrats to the three players who made the ACC Players of the Week list, and GO DEACS!
