The Wake Forest Women’s Basketball Team has continued their strong start to the season by taking down the Virginia Tech Hokies on the road by a score of 67-64. With the win, Wake Forest moves to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the ACC, solidifying themselves in the top half of the conference.

The Deacs were led by the usual suspects of seniors Gina Conti and Ivana Raca and junior Christina Morra. Conti led the way in the scoring department for the Deacs, scoring 18 points on 5-9 shooting despite having to sit much of the 2nd half due to foul trouble. Raca finished the game with yet another double-double (her 4th of the season), pouring in 17 points and grabbing an incredible 19 rebounds. Morra also scored 17 points and was instrumental in slowing down Elizabeth Kitley on the defensive end.

Kitley, one of the best players in the ACC, finished the game with 18 points on 9-18 shooting and 23 rebounds, but was held to just 6 points in the second half. She was helped by teammates Aisha Sheppard and Makayla Ennis, who finished with 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Hokies used a 14-4 run late in the 2nd quarter to take a 40-33 lead into the half. The Deacs answered back in 3rd quarter right away, outscoring the Hokies 20 to 10 in the quarter to take a 53-50 lead into the final quarter. The Deacs managed to get up by 5 points with 7 minutes remaining in the game, but the lead didn’t last long. Makayla Ennis scored 5 straight for the Hokies to tie the game up 60-60 with 5:30 left to go. Down the stretch, Christina Morra hit 2 huge baskets in the paint to give Wake a 4 point lead with 27 seconds remaining in the game, ultimately giving the Deacs the win.

Wake Forest plays again this Thursday against Georgia Tech in the first of four straight home games.
