ACC Announces 2020 Football Opponents

A revised list of opponents has been announced by the ACC

Due to the ongoing pandemic, I think we all pretty much knew that football season was going to be a little bit different this year. On Wednesday, the ACC announced a revised 10 game conference schedule, which allows teams to play 1 out of conference game in the home state of the team. The season will start no earlier than September 7th.

The Deacs will have home games against Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. They will travel on the road to take on Duke, Louisville, UNC, NC State, and Syracuse.

Notre Dame has been added as a conference member for this revised schedule, but as Wake was already scheduled to play the Irish this season, that hasn’t changed anything. As far as regular opponents, the Deacs will not be playing fellow Atlantic rival Boston College, and instead will be playing games against Coastal opponents UNC, Virginia, and VT. That means the Deacs will play VT twice in a row and UNC in 3 straight years. Obviously the goal here was to keep travel to a minimum. There are no dates attached to the information released by the ACC so I’m not sure when these games will be played.

The ACC championship game will be played on December 12th or 19th and will feature the top 2 teams in the conference, as divisions are basically not a thing this year.

With the conference allowing 1 out of conference game in the North Carolina, I would have to assume that the App game is still very much on the table.

This season is probably going to feel very strange, but hopefully the revised schedule allows the 2020 season to be completed safely.

What are your thoughts on the schedule?
