CB DaShawn Jones Commits to Wake Forest

Deacs strike again

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The recruiting train for Wake Forest Football keeps on rolling as Wake received another pledge from a CB out of Maryland, Dashawn Jones.

Jones stands at 6-1, 170 pounds playing at Mount Saint Joseph high school. He held offers from Kent State, Villanova, Temple and Kansas amongst others.

24/7 has him as a 2 star recruit and I think that’s more of a product of the competition being discredited rather than his ability to play corner. He has a good size for a team that wants to play more press(which Wake has stated they want to do more of and makes me incredibly happy), he has good play recognition and seems to always know where the ball is and where it’s going. There’s definitely some things to work on(he obviously needs to put on more muscle but at least has a frame for it), and I’d like to see more in terms of him using his hands off the line as well as get a better idea of his recovery speed.

Jones is definitely a project but it’s a good gamble to take as 6-1 corners just dont grow on trees. I’m excited to see what new CB coach Paul Williams can do with this kid, and I’m excited he chose Wake Forest. Jones also has run a recorded 11.25 100 Meter dash so he has some speed to him to add with a large frame

The month of May has shown to be a very fruitful recruiting endeavor for Wake Forest so let’s hope this keeps up come the next few months as things are showing signs of opening up.
