Watson, a three star recruit, was originally recruited to Wake by Danny Manning and his staff. On May 2, Watson reaffirmed his commitment to new coach Steve Forbes via his Instagram story, however in the past few weeks things have changed.
Rumors had circulated this week that Watson may not be attending Wake, and today this was confirmed.
Marcus’ decommitment leaves Quadry Adams, who was also recruited by Danny Manning, as the only recruit remaining in the class of 2020. Forward Jaylon Gibson and wing Djimon Bailey decommitted shortly after it was announced that Manning would not be retained as coach.
Wake Forest currently has nine scholarship players committed for next season, leaving the staff with four scholarships still left to fill.
The Deacs are in Georgetown transfer Mac McClung’s (guard) final seven schools, and have also reached out to Indiana forward Justin Smith and ETSU guard Daivien Williamson.
