Wilkins, a rising junior, will have two years of eligibility remaining, and is likely to be eligible next season if the NCAA approves all waivers as expected due to COVID-19.
Isaiah is a Winston-Salem native, and attended Mt. Tabor High School.
Per an article published in the Winston-Salem Journal on March 31, Wilkins was advised by Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young to transfer after being told that he didn't really fit Young’s system that he wanted to run moving forward.
If he is eligible as expected next season, Wilkins will likely fill some of the minutes now open due to the departure of Chaundee Brown. At 6-4, 225 pounds, he will likely see time at small forward and shooting guard, though mostly at small forward in the three guard system that coach Danny Manning likes to run.
According to hokiesports.com Wilkins played in all 32 games last year and started 5. He averaged 14.4 minutes, 4.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He shot 34% from the field, 28.4% from beyond the arc, and 72.7% at the free throw line.
During his freshman season under then head coach Buzz Williams, Wilkins played in all 34 games and started 1. He averaged 14.4 minutes, 4.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game. He shot 48.7% from the field, 40.7% from three, and 74.2% from the free throw line.
Wake Forest now has one scholarship still available, as 12 players are currently on scholarship for next season.
