The Wake Forest women's basketball team kicked off their season this weekend by playing in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Fort Myers, Florida.
Hosted by Florida Gulf Coast, the tournament featured FGCU, Wake, Davidson, Arkansas, Missouri State, and Maryland, with each team playing three games.
The Deacs took on Arkansas in the season opener on Friday, and fell to the Razorbacks 98-82. They led at the half, but gave up 37 points in the 3rd quarter while scoring only 18, and simply couldn’t rally back. Gina Conti led Wake with 23 points and 5 assists. Christina Morra contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Ivana Raca had 9 points and 11 rebounds.
In the second game on Saturday, Wake defeated Davidson 85-77 to get their first win of the season. Ivana Raca had 25 points and 7 rebounds, and Gina Conti had 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
In the final game of the showcase yesterday, Wake Forest took down #24 Missouri State 68-59. Ivana Raca once again led the way with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Alexandria Scruggs added 15 points.
