The Cheryl Miller Award is awarded annually to the best small forward in women’s basketball. If you, like me, were not familiar with the Cheryl Miller Award before now, that is because it is a new award that was first presented in 2018. It has only been awarded to 3 players total: Gabby Williams (UConn), Bridget Carleton (Iowa State), and Satou Sabally (Oregon).
Raca had a breakout season in her junior year for the Deacs, averaging a team high 17.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.68 assists per game. She scored 20 or more points in 11 games and was voted Second Team All ACC for the 2019-20 season. Raca also gained First Team All ACC Tournament honors, scoring 20.3 points per game over a 3 game stretch that included a monster 27 point, 13 rebound performance in a win over North Carolina in the opening round.
The ACC is always a tough league to play in, but if Raca can build off her junior year and continue to play at a high level, the Deacs should be able to make some noise this season.
