A question has been asked by many since the dramatic bowl game win in Birmingham, “who will start for Wake Forest come 2019?”
We now have an answer to that question: Jamie Newman.
Coach Dave Clawson announced this decision shortly after practice concluded on Sunday that Newman will be the starter when the Deacs face off against Utah State on August 30th.

It seems like the timing is a bit interesting as the Deacs have their final scrimmage and it felt like that would be the final obstacle of determining the starter but it seems as if Clawson has seen something/enough to make this decision that I wont question.
Both QBs seemed like fantastic options for the Deacs as Hartman started off the season well as a true freshman and Newman had the late season heroics against NC State and Memphis, and personally I felt that Newman’s numbers spoke volumes as it was against just better competition while it looked like Hartman struggled at times against better defenses.

With this question answered, there may be a weight lifted off the shoulders of Newman and now we have other questions to answer with the scrimmage coming up. Who fills that final spot on the OL? What are the Deacs doing at DT? What beer am I drinking to kick off the first tailgate?
What we do know, is that the Deacs no matter what this decision had been would’ve been in very good hands and that we are SO SO SO close to football being back.
Thoughts?
As always,
Go Deacs
