Wake Forest Football Opens Fall Camp

The Demon Deacons got through a scorching first practice of fall camp.

Wake Forest Football opened their fall camp today. In the scorching heat, the Demon Deacons began their quest to their fourth straight bowl game. Conor O’Neil of the Winston Salem Journal did a great job of highlighting the first day of camp (and kudos to him and Les and others for tolerating the heat).

Besides being sweaty, seeing a few NFL teams at opening day of fall camp (which is usually a more mental day) seems to continue to show the talent being produced in Winston-Salem.

Similar to last season, the Deacs are looking for answers at starting quarterback. Learning from last year, preventing injuries is at the top of list considering how much the defense suffered with key losses early and often.

While the QB battle may be on everyone’s mind, the Deacs also have to find offensive answers on the offensive line (especially at left guard) and playmakers (for WRs Greg Dortch and Alex Bachman).

On defense, finding leadership from the void of Cam Glenn will likely be a seamless transition to Justin Strnad but linbacker continues to be a relatively thin group. The secondary brings back the most on paper but finding ways to continue to improve after a rough start last season is key.

Special teams see the specialists intact, with even a big kicking commit on the books now. However, replacing Dortch in the return game will be something to look out for.

It’s an exciting time as football started back up today with camps and even a NFL preseason game.

Buckle up, it’s going to be fun.
