Wake Forest Men’s Tennis Advances to ACC Tournament Final

Honestly, I’m Shocked

In the least shocking thing that happened yesterday, the top-seeded Wake Forest Men’s tennis team advanced to their 5th straight ACC Championship Game.

The Deacs advanced after a couple of tough matches: a 4-3 nail-biter against Notre Dame that had to be played indoors due to weather and was littered with delays on Friday, and yesterday’s hard-fought 4-2 win over NC State(when have you heard that one before?)

Standing in the way of a second ACC title in a row are the Virginia Cavaliers. If this matchup sounds familiar, well it is. Not only have these two played twice this season and split the meetings, it’s the fourth time in the last 5 years that Wake and UVA will meet for the title.

Regardless of outcome, Wake is in position to be one of the 8 top host sites for the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament before the teams meet in Lake Nona. With Florida losing in the semis of the SEC tournament and Wake playing the #5 team in the nation, a win does nothing but help seeding position which is all-important here. It’s great to host a regional but the higher you are the less likely you are to be drawn into a section that has you playing a UCLa or UNC team in the third round.

I’ve heard the conditions in Cary have been warm just extremely windy, so this one is gonna be a battle. I have Wake winning 4-2, taking the doubles point and getting wins from Petros Chrysochos at 2, Bar Botzer at 3, and THE GREATEST OUTDOOR PLAYER EVER in Rrezart Cungu at 4. You’ll be able to watch the championship match on ACC Network Extra at 10am. But if you’re in the area, I encourage making it out to see the Deacs in person. It should be high-level tennis and the Cary tennis facility is a great venue.

As always,

Go Deacs
