Former Wake Forest QB John Wolford was great in his start for the Arizona Hotshots of the new Alliance of American Football season opening week. Leading the Hotshots, Wolford threw for four touchdowns and 275 yards in a 38-22 win over the Salt Lake City Stallions.
His performance earned him the first ever Offensive Player of the Week for the AAF league.

Ironically, Wolford was an underdog to even start for the Hotshots. Many thought after he was cut by the New York Jets in the preseason that Wolford would not get a chance for a starting gig but somehow he persevered and found a way.
Many scanned the eight team league and thought that bigger name college QBs (like Trevor Knight) would be getting the nod but instead the less than 200 pound QB from Lil Ole Wake Forest was able to not only start but put up big numbers in the surprisingly entertaining opener for the new league.
The Arizona Hotshots travel to face the Memphis Express for a Saturday (2.16.19) night 8 PM EST game.
