Wake Forest Soccer Advances to College Cup

Deacs advance for the first time since 2016

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

The Wake Forest men’s soccer team defeated UC Santa Barbara 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Deacs advanced to the College Cup for the first time since 2016, and the sixth time in program history.

The finals will be held next weekend in Cary, North Carolina at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Deacs will take on ACC foe Virginia on Friday at 8:30pm in the semifinals. Should they advance to the final, it will be on Sunday at 6pm against the winner of Georgetown versus Stanford.

The Cardinals have seemed to have the Deacons’ number in recent years, so one would think the team would be anxious for a chance to take them down in the final if they get past Virginia.

Alistair Johnston scored the lone goal of tonight’s game in the 44th minute.

With a full house at Spry Stadium for the last time this season, Wake Forest also took over the top spot in NCAA Soccer attendance.

Congratulations to the team, and be sure to follow them Friday night in Cary. The game will be on ESPNU if you can’t make the short trip down I-40.

As always, GO DEACS!!!
