The Wake Forest Demon Deacons secondary received a potentially massive boon today, as CB J.J. Roberts has signed on the dotted line. A 3 star recruit, J.J. was the Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state of West Virginia. At 5'11, 175, with a 4.68 40 and almost a 41-inch vertical, I'm a little baffled by his offer list. J.J. got offers from Army, Air Force, Miami (OH), Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Rutgers, and Indiana State.
Blessed to say I’ll be committing to Wake Forest University!! I wanna thank everyone that has given me the opportunity to play and I’m ready to be a Demon Deacon!!!! Go Deacsss @CoachClawson @coach_craw @CoachTMendelson pic.twitter.com/RFPUJQvgLs

Probably the thing that jumps out at me most in highlights is that this kid HITS. If he sticks tackles in college anything like in high school, he's not going to be as much of a liability with regards to turning losses into huge gains the way some of our defenders have been lately. He definitely also seems to have something of a nose for the ball, but his power seems to be truly remarkable. Play after play, J.J. absolutely stonewalls offensive players and kick returners, which truthfully might help to explain the interest from the service academies. That kind of tenacity is exactly what the military teams look for.
Honored to receive West Virginia Gatorade player of the year ☝ @Gatorade https://t.co/BS01EWaWrY

Roberts may be one of my(Cam) favorite players in this class just due to how rock solid he is at corner. This feels like one of those recruits that in 2-3 years we look back at and go, “how on earth was he not rated higher?”
Welcome to the family, J.J., and Go Deacs!
