Wake Forest Football: The Final Stretch and Keeping Perspective

After back to back losses, it can be tough to have the same optimism. However, there’s still a lot at stake.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it. The last two weeks for Wake Forest Football hasn’t been the easiest to go through.

After starting the season at 7-1, possibility of a few significant goals were there for the taking and in the possession of the Deacs. Fans were thinking big, maybe a double digit win season, an opportunity for the Orange Bowl,

After back to back brutal road games against the Virginia Tech Hokies and Clemson Tigers, it may seem like longshot for those opportunities. Making it more painful was losing WR Sage Surratt, the only wide receiver in the Power 5 to have over 1,000 yards at the time of leaving the Virginia Tech game for the rest of the season.

It’s not going to be easy, and the Deacs will need some help, but those lofty goals are still attainable. The Deacs will need to of course take of their business against the Duke Blue Devils this week and then a road trip up to frigid Syracuse (albeit in the Dome). However, those games can get the Deacs to nine regular season victories, more than anyone could have anticipated.

Embrace the optimism and mentality of the Deacs senior running back. “The preseason doesn’t matter”. There’s still a lot of football left and the opportunity to do something special for the program with the remaining games left. Let’s support the team down the final stretch and see what unfolds for the boys in Black and Gold.
