Wake Forest’s women’s basketball team got its first ACC win today at Virginia, in spite of being without its two top scorers Elisa Penna and Alex Sharp.
The Lady Deacs took down the Cavaliers 52-42 and improved to 10-10 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.
Sophomore forward Ivana Raca led the Deacs with 21 points and 8 rebounds on 7-16 shooting. She played 38 of the 40 minutes, and freshman guard Kaylen Dickson played 39 minutes.
Dickson had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Junior forward Ona Udoh had 4 points and 11 rebounds. Gina Conti chipped in 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Christina Morra and Maya Banks each had 7 points off the bench.
The Deacs held Virginia to 26% shooting and 15% from beyond the arc, as the Cavaliers made just 3 threes all game.
Wake Forest also out-rebounded Virginia by 15.
Penna and Sharp have both missed several games, and together account for an average of 28 points a game, so things have been tough going for the Lady Deacs.
They host #8 NC State on Thursday, and will look to build upon the win today.
Go Deacs!!!
