The stats make it pretty clear who’s at the top (and bottom) of the league

The following details a lot of numbers on ACC basketball records since 2010, and all are accurate as of Sunday, January 20, 2019 after the afternoon conference game.

Louisville and Syracuse both have seasons with NCAA rules violations that forced them to vacate wins and sit out post-season tournaments.

Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse only have data for years in which they were members of the ACC.

In 2017, a home game for North Carolina against Notre Dame that was supposed to be in Chapel Hill was moved to Greensboro due to a water crisis in Chapel Hill.

These graphics should make it pretty clear who is at the top and bottom of the conference in this decade.

Keep in mind as you read this that a decade ago on this date WAKE FOREST was the NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION.

Duke is clearly the best team, and Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia are clearly the top three.

The Blue Devils have the most overall wins, best overall winning percentage, best non-conference home winning percentage, most non-conference home wins, best home record, best home winning percentage, most conference home wins, best conference home winning percentage, most non-conference neutral site wins, are tied for the most conference wins, have two ACC Tournament Championships, have three 30+win seasons, and a National Championship.

North Carolina is tied for the most conference wins, has the most away wins, the best away win percentage, the most conference away wins, the best conference away winning percentage, the most ACC Tournament wins, the best ACC Tournament win percentage, most NCAA Tournament wins, an ACC Tournament Championship, three 30+ win seasons, and a National Championship.

Virginia has the best non-conference neutral site win percentage, three 30+win seasons, and two ACC Tournament Championships.

On the other hand, Boston College and Wake Forest have been by far the worst teams, with Georgia Tech slightly better.

Boston College has the least overall wins (one less than Wake Forest), most overall losses, is tied with Wake Forest for the least conference wins and most conference losses, the worst overall win percentage, tied for the worst conference win percentage, the worst overall home win percentage, the most overall home losses, the least overall away wins, the worst overall away win percentage, tied for the most non-conference home losses, the most conference home losses, the most non-conference neutral site losses, the worst non-conference neutral site win percentage, and was the first ever team to go winless in conference play.

Georgia Tech has the most non-conference away losses and is tied with Wake Forest and Syracuse for the worst ACC Tournament win percentage.

Wake Forest is the ONLY ACC team without a win in either the NIT or NCAA Tournament since 2010, has the worst non-conference home record, the worst non-conference home win percentage, tied with Boston College for the least conference wins and most conference losses, tied for the worst conference win percentage, tied for the worst ACC Tournament win percentage, tied for the most non-conference home losses, the worst conference road record, the least conference road wins, and the most away losses.

The gap between the top and bottom of the conference is so large at this point that I’m not sure that Wake Forest and Boston College will compete with Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia until Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, and Tony Bennett have all retired, and Wake Forest and Boston College have found coaches who can consistently win or at least compete in the ACC.

And yes, once again, this is the same Wake Forest that on January 20, 2009 was the NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION!!!

Here’s to better Demon Deacon basketball in the future. Go Deacs.
