On Friday, I put out a Twitter question to see what people were most interested in reading about heading into the weekend, and the overwhelming majority of folks mentioned one thing: WF Alternate Uniforms/Helmet ideas.

Frankly, it’s a fun topic to get lost in for a couple minutes, with Wake’s colors and unique mascot allowing for some potential awesome combinations that have been historically untouched. I’ve never been one to hide my passion for uniforms, and I do think they can add a bonus, intangible “hype” factor for recruiting and the fanbase in general. Given the fact that one helmet has seemingly been dropped from the uni rotation (The polished Black WF helmet hasn’t been worn since Week 3 of last season), and it’s been almost a year since the alternate “Deacon Logo” debuted against FSU, is it time to start thinking about what the next Wake Football lid could look like? Of course it is.

Here are 9 Wake Forest helmet concepts that I think could look pretty cool if they ever came to fruition. You’ll notice a few themes:
- “Walking Deacon” - Helmets A, B, and C pay tribute to the Deacon statue outside of BB&T Field, an iconic part of WF Football that has never been featured on a uniform before. It’s unique to our school, looks good in multiple colors, and would be a brand new addition to the WF uniform collection.
- “Flying WF” - Helmets, D, E, and F all feature the throwback “Flying WF” look that was appreciated a few decades ago by Deacon fans. The logo is beginning to make a comeback on Wake Forest’s campus, with plenty of gear in the Deacon Shop now featuring the “Flying WF” after years of being relatively hidden. You’ll notice there are slight variations between E/F and D here as well, with the former being a primary logo from 1977-1985, while the latter was used between 1968-1976. Side Note: 1968 just happens to be the same year BB&T Field debuted, and here we are celebrating its 50th Anniversary season. Food for thought...
This year, we'll be celebrating 50 years of competition at BB&T Field! Get caught up on everything we have planned for the upcoming season as we honor the 50th anniversary. #GoDeacs

- “Wild Cards” - Helmets G, H, and I all offer something a little bit different than what we currently have in our uni rotation. I personally really enjoy the “Scripted Deacs” and think it would be perfect for a one-off night game against a big opponent. The enlarged Deacon Helmet in white was undoubtedly inspired by this mock-up that was leaked years ago and never actually worn in a game. The social media response to the design at the time was incredibly positive, and the team has already had the Deacon on a helmet as recently as 2017. As for G, having the University Seal on the helmet would be incredibly unique in the world of college football and be unlike anything we’ve ever had in the past. I’m into it.
