Once again, Senior Elisa Penna, who got the chance to play against her sister in this game, led the way for the Deacs with 16 points.
Wake then had the opportunity to play the Italian National Team, comprised of the best players Italy has to offer, and was defeated by a score of 37 to 74. The Italian National Team placed 7th out of 16 in the 2017 FIBA tournament and is currently ranked 31st out of 79 FIBA teams. So while the Deacs may have lost, they likely gained some valuable experience going up against some of the best players in the world.
The team will stick around Italy for a couple of days to visit Penna’s hometown and host a youth clinic before heading back home with experience in more than just basketball.
