The Deacs played the first of their 3 exhibition games on Tuedsay, defeating the Rome All-Stars by a score of 80-62. With the game tied at 62, Wake went on an impressive 18-0 run to secure the win. Senior forward and Italian native Elisa Penna led the way for the Deacs, scoring a team high 17 points.
The women’s team will head to Florence next, where they will check out the sights and take on their next All-Star opponent in Ponte Buggianes.
After Florence, the Deacs are off to Vicenza and will get to visit Venice before they play their final exhibition game against the Italian Senior National Team, who represent Italy in the Olympics.
Credit to Head Coach Jen Hoover for putting together a fantastic opportunity for the women’s team to play top level talent abroad while giving the players a great bonding experience and a chance to see the world.
