A lot of Wake Forest fans expected former tight end Cam Serigne (pronounced “SAIR-in-yay” for any Panthers fans reading this) to get drafted in the later rounds of the NFL Draft, and while that did not happen, one of the best situations for him came to fruition yesterday when the Carolina Panthers signed him to their training camp roster.
The Panthers have signed TE Cam Serigne, an undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest.

Serigne is the ACC’s tight end all-time record holder in catches (174), yards (2,075), and touchdowns (21). Beyond that he is an outstanding person off the field and an incredible representative of Wake Forest.
While this is great news obviously, Serigne will have to put in some good work with the Panthers in their training camp at Wofford this month to make the 53-man roster. Greg Olsen will obviously make the team, but other than that Serigne will be competing against four other tight ends to make the roster.
My guess is that Chris Manhertz will be his biggest competition at this point, as he bounced back and forth last year between the active roster and practice squad depending on whether or not the Panthers went with two or three tight ends on game day.
The current tight ends on the roster aside from Serigne include: Greg Olsen, Jason Vander Laan, Ian Thomas, Chris Manhertz and Evan Baylis.
This is an excellent opportunity for Serigne, who at 6-3, 240 can present a big target area for Cam Newton to get him the ball. His hard work and dedication to learning from people around him should also benefit him greatly.
Congratulations Cam! We at BSD are proud of you and hope nothing but the best with the Panthers and the rest of your professional career!
