As a reminder, the first 3 games of the season are at Tulane, vs. Towson, and vs. BC. The Deacs’ choice at quarterback for these games will be redshirt sophomore Jamie Newman, who is 2-4 for 8 yards in his collegiate career, or freshman Sam Hartman, who has never played a down of college football.
While losing your starting QB is never a situation you want to be in, this is a huge opportunity for Hartman and Newman to get game experience and show what they can do on the field.
Another thing of note here is the new NCAA rule which allows freshman to play up to 4 games without losing their ability to redshirt.

This means that Hartman can play in these first 3 games without burning his redshirt, which is huge for the Deacs in this scenario.
I’m confident the Deacs can beat Tulane and Towson with inexperience at the quarterback position. I’m wavering a little bit on the BC game at this point, but we’ll just have to wait and see how Hartman or Newman perform in the first 2 games.
