Zach Ranson, an athlete out of St. Pius X Catholic in Atlanta, Georgia, signed with Wake Forest this morning and will join what is projected to be the highest rated recruiting class in the history of Wake Forest’s football program.
Ranson is a 6-3, 205 pound rangy athlete who chose the Demon Deacons over offers from Air Force and Georgia State. He is a consensus 3-star prospect, and is 247’s 76th best athlete in the country. In addition to being a star on the gridiron, he can also throw down some dunks on the basketball court. Clawson and his staff value multi-sport athletes, and Ranson certainly fits that description. He will be yet another product out of Georgia, which has proven to be a fruitful pipeline for the Deacs during the Clawson era.
I have decided to commit to Wake Forest to continue my football career!!! Go demon deacons Thanks to all who support and pushed me. Thanks @CoachCohenWake @WakeFB @CoachClawson pic.twitter.com/7L3MtGTIUn— Zach Ranson (@RansonZach) April 16, 2018
Though Ranson is listed as an athlete by recruiting services, it appears that the coaching staff views him as more of a defensive prospect. His defensive versatility will allow him to play either safety or outside linebacker. His highlights are primarily of him on the defensive side of the ball, and that is where Wake’s bigger needs are, so I think that’s a great fit for both Wake and Ranson.
Newest Wake football commit @RansonZach plays both sides of the ball for St. Pius Catholic, but "I enjoy defense a lot more," he said. "I like hitting people." https://t.co/nlBnNkVQQD pic.twitter.com/XzfaBVMFd5— Les Johns (@Les_Johns) April 18, 2018
