Weak-side Defensive End Isaiah Chaney has officially signed with Wake Forest, bringing added depth to a defensive line that graduates 3 of their top 4 tacklers from the 2018 season in Willie Yarbary, Zeek Rodney, and Chris Calhoun.
Chaney is a 6-4, 230 pound defensive end out of Cartersville, Georgia. He chose Wake Forest over offers from Buffalo, Syracuse, Toledo, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt. In terms of rankings, Chaney is rated as the 73rd best WDE in the class, and the 119th best player in Georgia, making him a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports.
Chaney was recruited primarily by Defensive Line Coach and now Assistant Head Coach for Defense, Dave Cohen. He was offered a scholarship by Minnesota 4 days after committing to Wake Forest, but stuck with the Deacs.
The 14-1 Cartersville Hurricanes were runners up for 2018 season in the Georgia Class 4A division, with their only loss coming in the state championship game. Chaney finished his high school career with a 54-3 record and 2 state championships. There is no doubt he will bring a winning mentality to the defensive line.
