BSD Staff Predictions for NC State

Wake hasn't won in Carter-Finley since 2006, and that streak will likely continue tonight

The Deacs take on the Wolfpack in Carter Finley Stadium, where they haven’t won since 2006. The staff isn't too optimistic about this one after the news that Sam Hartman is out for the year.

Andrew (6 correct-Tulane, Towson, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson & Louisville, 3 incorrect-BC, Florida State & Syracuse)

NC State 38-Wake Forest 17

I have no doubt that NC State will carry their momentum into this one. Having outmatched Florida State on Saturday, they are on the right path of success. I believe such momentum is crucial in such heading into this short week before kickoff Thursday. Their home field advantage is also key in these type of games.

As for the Deacons’ offense, I don’t see them doing too much. Their offensive line was a major disappointment on Saturday against Syracuse. They let up a total of five sacks, and that play should carry over into this one. I don’t the team’s offensive figuring out their gaping holes in such a short week, so expect Jamie Newman to be under pressure for most of the night. They should, however, find success in the short passing game, but I don’t believe that’ll help carry the abundance of offensive load that they need in this one.

The Wolfpack offense is not one to be taken lightly. They have playmakers both in the backfield and passing game that will cause an aptitude of problems for the Deacons defensive unit. Veteran quarterback Ryan Finley has shown the ability to read and adapt to what’s shown to him, thus expect a lot of scoring from them on Thursday. I believe the Wolfpack will gain the early lead and never look back.

Elijah (7 correct-Tulane, Towson, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson, Florida State & Louisville, 2 incorrect-BC & Syracuse)

NC State 35-Wake Forest 24

The Deacs have a short week in their effort to try and stay bowl eligible against a relatively strong NC State team.

For a bowl game, the Deacs are running out of chances. Wake Forest will need to win two of the next three and given the short week for both teams, the edge has to go to the more talented squad.

Wake Forest will play desperately but ultimately come up short.

Riley (8 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Rice, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville & Syracuse, 1 incorrect-Notre Dame)

NC State 41-Wake Forest 13

I do not expect this one to be pretty. State usually dominates Wake in Raleigh, and with Newman starting in place of the injured Hartman, I think the offense will take a while to click. State has a very good team this year and will look to pay us back in full for the close loss last year.

I would take the points (15) and run with the Wolfpack.

Adam (8 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson, Florida State & Syracuse, 1 incorrect-Louisville)

NC State 42-Wake Forest 10

I already didn’t like our chances before the Hartman injury, but now I see this thing getting way out of hand. Without a legitimate passing threat, our offense will struggle to move the ball at all, leaving our defense on the field for a large portion of the game. And I probably don’t need to tell you how that will go.

Grumpy (6 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Rice, Clemson & Florida State, 1 incorrect-Notre Dame)

NC State 48-Wake Forest 13

Pain, lots of pain. NC State is simply a more complete and talented squad than Wake this year, is always tough for us on the road, will be motivated by last year’s upset (#GoalLineCam), and is still in the hunt for a high quality bowl. Meanwhile, Wake’s lost its starting QB in addition to the long list of other starters out for the year.

Bart (7 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson, & Florida State, 2 incorrect-Louisville & Syracuse)

NC State 41-Wake Forest 13

N.C. State is better than wake, playing at home on a Thursday night, and looking to keep their chances of playing in a New Years Six game alive. With this at stake I fully expect The Pack to dominate a depleted Wake team forced to turn to backup options at QB. State puts this away early before Wake tacks on some late points.

Cam (4 correct-Tulane, Towson, Clemson & Louisville, 4 incorrect-BC, Notre Dame, Florida State & Syracuse)

NC State 42-Wake Forest 24

Wake is too banged up and hasn’t won here in a while. Take that rest and win two in a row boys.

Samurai (5 correct-Tulane, Towson, Rice, Clemson & Louisville, 4 incorrect-BC, Notre Dame, Florida State & Syracuse)

NC State 35-Wake Forest 14

I might have believed, but losing Sam Hartman was the death knell for any upsets of this caliber. Sigh.

Rob (8 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson, Florida State & Syracuse, 1 incorrect-Louisville)

NC State 42-Wake Forest 17

I fully expect that this is going to be an ugly one for the Deacs. The injuries have been plentiful for the Deacons this season, and now they’ll be without Sam Hartman. NC State has been a very good team this season, and I expect Ryan Finley to pick our defense apart.

Edward (8 correct-Tulane, Towson, BC, Notre Dame, Rice, Clemson, Florida State & Syracuse, 1 incorrect-Louisville)

NC State 38-Wake Forest 17

Wake Forest hasn't won in Carter-Finley Stadium since the 2006 ACC Championship season, and I don't expect that streak to end this year. Sam Hartman is out for the year, and new starting quarterback Jamie Newman has barely played at all, much less played in a hostile environment against a top 25 team. Wake’s defense can't stop an elite quarterback like Ryan Finley. Expect this one to get ugly early, as the Wolfpack will score early and often and never look back.

Rafael (4 correct-Tulane, Rice, Clemson & Florida State, 1 incorrect-BC)

Ned (2 correct-Tulane & Rice, 1 incorrect-Notre Dame)
