This is going to be a super quick recap with just a couple of plays because, honestly, who wants to read an article that’s just gifs of the other team scoring? Probably no one. So let’s just jump in.
The only Wake Forest touchdown of the day came in the closing minutes of the first half, as Jamie Newman faked the bubble screen to Greg Dortch and found Alex Bachman streaking down the field wide smack open.
Unfortunately, that was about the only highlight for the offense in this game, as the Deacs managed just 285 total yards and 13 points. Definitely not our best outing of the year.
On the other side of the ball, I felt I could pretty much sum the game up with 1 gif: a 3rd and long play where Pitt QB Kenny Pickett finds a wide open guy in the middle of the field for a big gain (and a TD in this case).
Pickett finished the game 23-30 for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wake had trouble getting pressure on him while simultaneously struggling to defend receivers down the field. That’s a recipe for disaster. The Deacs also had a hard time getting off the field, as Pitt was 11-18 (61%) on 3rd down conversions.
With the win, Pittsburgh officially clinched the Coastal Division.
The Deacs must win at Duke next weekend to extend their season and become bowl eligible.
