As the Demon Deacons prepare for their second game against the Boston College Eagles, some good news for a Wake alum has surfaced as NFL teams prepare for their first games (except the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins, stay safe from Irma!).
Marquel Lee, former Deac linebacker has won the middle linebacker job with the Oakland Raiders. Lee held off competition from undrafted free agent Nicholas Morrow and got ahead of injured Jelani Jenkins to win a coveted spot.
A fifth round pick success story, Lee has benefited tremendously from the surrounding coaches and organization as he is under Jack Del Rio’s tutelage. As the Deacs prepare to take on the Eagles, Lee can serve as another motivational example of how hard work can pay off, even at “little ole Wake Forest”.
We wish you well in Oakland Marquel. 300+ tackles, 4 year player, two-time captain, all-conference selection, and now starting middle linebacker for the Oakland Raiders.
