2018 PG Target Mike Devoe to Announce Commitment on Saturday at 5

The top 100 PG is believed to be between Wake Forest, Florida, and Georgia Tech

If everything goes right on Saturday then there will be a big reason to party in Winston-Salem on Saturday night. The Wake Forest football team is seeking to start 4-0 in back-to-back years for the first time in school history, and now we find out that 2018 point guard target Mike Devoe will announce where he will attend college on Saturday at 5 PM.

Devoe is a 6-4, 175 pound four-star point guard out of Montverde Academy in Orlando, Florida. He is rated as a 95.5 on 247Sports, the 81st player in the Class of 2018, and the 16th best point guard in the class.

The staff offered Devoe on April 27, 2017, and he had his official visit in Winston-Salem last weekend during Homecoming. Isaiah Mucius was also on that visit, and he committed to the Deacs on Monday evening.

Devoe also has a pretty good relationship with current Wake Forest freshman Chaundee Brown from their AAU days.

The timing of this announcement is interesting because he has yet to take his official visit to Florida, the leader according to the three predictions on 247Sports Crystal Ball.

The Deacs may have lucked out when Devoe had to cancel his official visit to Florida a couple of weeks ago when Hurricane Irma struck the southeast. His official visit for UF is set for October 7th, so if he does commit to Florida then he will take that visit as a commit (much like Sharone Wright, Jr. is doing with Wake Forest this weekend).

Florida had top 100 point guards Elijah Weaver (35th) and Devon Dotson (29th) in this past weekend, and head coach Mike White has made it clear that he only wants to take one point guard. Weaver and Dotson are ranked ahead of Devoe, so it is a possibility that UF is not prioritizing Devoe as much as Wake Forest is.

Devoe visited Georgia Tech on August 25th, Southern California on September 9th, and received multiple in-home visits from Mike White (UF) and Josh Partner (Georgia Tech).

If Devoe winds up committing to Wake Forest and nothing else changes on the recruiting grind this week then the Deacs will have the No. 2 2018 recruiting class in the country, behind only Arizona. While that would likely change as more players commit, it is amazing to think of what Danny Manning has done at Wake.

The Deacs currently have the best recruiting class in the ACC according to 247Sports.

Personally I believe the timing of this works very much in Wake Forest’s favor. The Deacs have the last visit, a guy that was on the visit with him committed to Wake on Monday, and he is not making an official visit to Florida before he announces.

As Ned speculated yesterday, when you combine all the positives listed above with the fact that Wake is officially out of scholarships and likely to only take one more player, it indicates to me that something spurred him to move up his commitment date and go ahead and make an announcement.

Let’s hope that change of date reflects a desire to go ahead and commit to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
