BSD Roundtable: Wake Forest Breakout Defensive Player

Who does the BSD staff think will break out for Wake Forest on the defensive side of the ball

NCAA Football: ACC Football Kickoff Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday we took a look at who the Blogger So Dear staff thought would break out on the offensive side of the ball. Today we take a look at the defensive side of things.

Cam- Amari Henderson (CB)

The easy route would be Wendell Dunn, but I'm gonna go Amari Henderson just out of sheer need. Wake needs to improve, and stay healthy, at cornerback. He quietly finished 2nd among corners with 20 tackles last season and finished 10th in the ACC with in passes defended. I see him making a big step forward and helping make this already top 30 defense even better and take pressure off Jessie Bates and Cameron Glenn up top and allow them to roam freely

Elijah- Ja'Sir Taylor (CB)

A late add from Temple after the coaching change, Taylor was a monster at the scrimmage, flying around. With Jessie Bates locking down one defensive back spot looking to keep his All-American Freshman form, the rest of the defensive back spots are relatively fluid and the freshman from New Jersey may have something to say about that.

Adam - Ja'Cquez Williams (LB)

While he hasn't played in a game for the Deacs yet, the redshirt freshman linebacker really made a statement in the last scrimmage, racking up 10 total tackles and half of a sack. Outside of Jaboree Williams, our linebackers are incredibly young, and there is a ton of production from last season that needs to be filled in that position. Ja'Cquez has shown that he can be the guy to fill that gap, so I think he will have a break out season in his first year of play.

Ed - Grant Dawson (LB)

I’m biased in this answer, but I’m going to go with Grant Dawson. He’s a team captain after having been a walk-on his first two years, works extremely hard, and should be looked to as one of the leaders of this team. Getting a chance to shine in front of his hometown one last season should really bring out the best in his game, especially now that he has the chance to be THE guy among the linebackers.
