The Oakland Raiders certainly had some defensive issues last year at linebacker. Hence, they took a chance and drafted Marquel Lee in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Lee benefited immediately from an ideal situation. Under the tutelage of defensive minded head coach, Jack Del Rio, and coordinator Ken Norton Jr. (who both played linebacker in the NFL), Lee will look to be the “steady eddie” for the Raider’s defense in the middle. While the middle linebacker spot may have been a weak spot, Lee will be sandwiched by All-Pro linebackers Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin as well, even bolstering his opportunity to succeed.
Lee is also projected to wear the coveted “green dot” which is the helmet that can communicate directly with the defensive staff. As the Raiders prepare for their first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, Lee looks to take a lot of reps.

The Raiders are definitely taking a gamble by giving the responsibilities to a young rookie from Wake Forest but look for Lee to overcome the obstacles like he’s done throughout his career so far.
Not bad for a guy from Little Old Wake Forest.
