At the time of this article being up, the Wake Forest Women’s team will have already begun it’s run in Columbia, South Carolina regional against Texas. Shaping up to be a really good match, good luck ladies!
At 5pm, in Winston-Salem, the Number 1 overall seed in the tournament begins their run to hopefully the national title. The Wake Forest Men’s tennis team tries to cap off a historic season by first hosting a regional right in their own backyard. They begin their journey against a very scrappy UNC-Wilmington team. The lineup will be the same as the ACC tournament: 1-6 being Petros Chrysochos, Borna Gojo, Skander Mansouri, Christian Seraphim, Dennis Uspensky, and Alan Gadjiev, with doubles being Mansouri/Seraphim, Gojo/Gadjiev, Chrysochos/Gadjiev.
I don’t forsee Wake having any trouble in this matchup and winning 4-0, but always one step at a time. Should Wake win this matchup, tomorrow at 5pm they would play the winner of one of the better first round matchups: Kentucky vs Georgia State. While on paper that should be an easier Kentucky win by the tune of about 4-2, Kentucky has been out of form the better half of the last month and Georgia State has been on a torrid run while playing top teams close. I still have Wake playing Kentucky, but I can definitely see an upset happening. I see a Wake win either way, 4-1 vs Kentucky or 4-0 vs Georgia State and see the Demon Deacons moving on to Athens

Looking ahead at the bracket... Things can get a little tricky. While being the Number 1 seed, Wake honestly has probably the hardest road. If this team makes it out of this regional, they would probably face the winner of Michigan and Stanford. Stanford being the 16 seed is no slouch, Michigan actually just got nudged out for the last regional spot by Stanford, has been playing well this year and played Wake Forest to the wire last year. Getting past that should see UNC in the quarters, a team that Wake won 4-3 against earlier this year, USC or UGA in the Semis and if I was a betting man, a rematch of the ACC championships against UVA in the finals.
In order to be the man you have to beat the man. The entire season has been building up to this tournament and honestly, I’m pretty confident in this team. If you’re still in Winston, I highly encourage you to take some time to wake some high level tennis and support the Deacs. One step at a time, and just like any tournament, anything is possible. Keep up with us at BSD as we’ll keep you updated on anything and everything Wake Forest sports. As always, Go Deacs. Let us know in the comments your predictions for this weekend, or the tournament in general.
