The No. 16 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacon baseball team went 1-1 in mid-week games. Wake fell to High Point 5-3 on Tuesday in Winston-Salem, but bounced back to get a 9-2 win at Radford yesterday.
While a 2-0 week would have been much preferred, the loss to High Point didn’t drop Wake in the RPI very much, where the team remains 11th nationally.
Sitting at 33-15 on the year, Wake is still slated to host a regional by Baseball America, but are right on the fringe as things currently stand.
This weekend the Diamond Deacs head to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles in a pivotal matchup for ACC Atlantic and ACC Tournament seeding.
Wake currently sits at 4th in the ACC with a 15-9 conference record, one game behind Clemson for 3rd, and one game ahead of Virginia for 5th. The Seminoles are in 7th place in the ACC overall, and 4th in the Atlantic. If Wake can win one game this weekend then they will clinch at least 3rd in the Atlantic Division.
The main goal for Wake is to get the 4th seed in the ACC and not fall to 5th behind UVA or Miami. This would be very important for the pod play portion of the ACC Tournament.
We will have a more expansive preview of the weekend series coming out tomorrow, but it’s a big one for ACC Tournament seeding, as well as NCAA Tournament hosting reasons.
