The No. 1 seeded and nationally ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons tennis team opened up its ACC Tournament title defense with an easy 4-0 victory over the No. 9 seeded N.C. State Wolfpack.

The ACC Tournament is being held in Rome, Georgia this year at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.

The doubles point was clinched with wins on Courts 1 & 3 by No. 1 Mansouri/Seraphim and Chrysochos/Uspensky. Court 2 went unfinished, as Gadjiev/Gojo were tied at 4 with the N.C. State No. 2 doubles team.

In singles, all six Wake Forest players would win the first set of their matches to pretty much place a stranglehold on the match.

No. 75 Christian Seraphim put the Deacs up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Michael Ogden at the 5 spot.

On Court 4, Dennis Uspensky brought the Deacs within a point of clinching with a simple 6-2, 6-2 win over Georgiy Malyshev.

Finally, the match was clinched when No. 4 Petros Chrysochos defeated No. 86 Alexis Galarneau 6-1, 6-2 at the Number 1 Singles spot to give Wake the 4-0 victory.

With the win Wake Forest moves to 26-1 on the year, while N.C. State finishes the season at 14-15.

The Demon Deacons will take on the winner of No. 4 Georgia Tech or No. 5 Duke tomorrow in the semi-finals at 10 A.M., while No. 2 Virginia will take on No. 3 North Carolina at the same time.

It was very important to get the No. 1 seed in this tournament because of the talent that UVA and UNC both have. This gives an easier match tomorrow, while the victor UVA and UNC will likely have to put a lot out there before presumably facing Wake Forest on Sunday for the title.
