Kentucky head coach John Calipari will be the head coach, while Manning, and Colorado’s Tad Boyle will be assistants on the team.
The tournament will take place from July 1-9 in Cairo, Egypt. The USA will presumably be overwhelming favorites to win the tournament.
An interesting note is that Calipari was an assistant at Kansas during parts of Boyle’s and Manning’s playing careers at Kansas.
This is a pretty big honor for Coach Manning, and beyond the chance to represent the USA, this presents an outstanding recruiting pitch to player’s considering (or in the future considering) Wake Forest as their collegiate choice.
It is pretty interesting that Boyle and Manning both managed to be named to this staff, as they both took over after Jeff Bzdelik’s departure from Colorado and Wake Forest respectively. It’s good to see that they were able to overcome those tremendous difficulties and succeed in this manner.
Congratulations to Coach Manning, and we look forward to following his work with the team and what they can accomplish.
