Another day and another massive game for the Deacs. Wake will be a slight underdog in this one, but this is an outstanding opportunity to earn a solid road win and boost the NCAA Tournament resume with a victory. Wake earned its needed signature when then the Deacs beat Louisville on Wednesday, but they have to move on and focus on this opponents. I firmly believe that if Wake can beat Virginia Tech, then all they will have to do in order to make the NCAA Tournament is beat Boston College in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. Everything after that would only be for seeding purposes.
Virginia Tech is a very interesting matchup for Wake. The Deacs are the better team, but Cassell Coliseum is a difficult place to play. Wake will absolutely have an advantage on the interior, and John Collins and Dinos Mitoglou should be able to get great shots against VT, but the Hokies will do a great job of spacing the floor when Wake is on defense. That could lead to Wake defenders getting beat off the dribble or open looks from deep. Offense will not be a problem for Wake, but having a particularly strong night from deep won't hurt. Wake's key will be contesting those outside shots and playing fundamental defense. The team with the better defense is going to pull this one out.
I hope that you'll join me in the comments section for this one. It's going to be a wild one. Let's get the damn thing done. As always, go Deacs!
