With an anxiety-inducing day surely ahead for most Wake fans (even if you believe, like most of the writers here do, that the Deacs will be dancing tonight), we thought it was a worthwhile endeavor to explore a drink option that can help quell the nerves a bit. After taking a look at several different options, it quickly became evident exactly what drink the Wake Forest Demon Deacons faithful should sip on as the results come in during the Selection Sunday Show: the John Collins.
Partially inspired by our good friend on twitter Ya Boy Stan Cotten (@NotStanCotten), as seen below, this is a delicious option for appropriately aged Deacon fans everywhere.

ME: John Collins....make it a triple because just like JC I don't mind dropping 20+ in the name of the deacs pic.twitter.com/T7NP9dKS6u
So how can you, at home, make the best John Collins and share it with the rest of Demon Deacon nation? Let’s take a look at what I would consider my favorite recipe.
Items you will need:
Bourbon Whiskey
Lemon Juice
Simple Syrup (or fine sugar - likely not sugar cubes)
Ice Cubes
Club Soda
Maraschino Cherry
Orange Slice
Highlights of John Collins top plays of the year with Zombie Nation playing in the background
Directions:
Start with a half ounce of simple syrup and add to the bottom of the glass. If you have fine sugar, just coat the bottom of the glass - it doesn’t have to be any specific amount.
Put ice into a Collins glass (any tall glass will do). You can be healthy with the amount of ice you put in.
Next, get with the bourbon and pour anywhere from 1.5 to 2 ounces into the glass. It doesn’t have to be bourbon though and any type of whiskey should make for a delicious cocktail. It should, however, be a dark liquor as to distinguish from the Tom Collins, which traditionally uses gin. Add an ounce of lemon juice or to taste.
Stir with vigor. Shake and bake like John Collins will do when it’s announced tonight that Wake is in the field.
Fill the glass up the rest of the way with club soda and plop the orange slice and cherry into the drink for garnish. As you drop the cherry in, imagine you’re JC taking it hard to the rim against our prospective first round opponent. I’m imagining it’s Maryland, you can pick your own opponent. Keep it good for our Deacs though - let’s not ask for an Iowa State or an SMU.
Enjoy your drink.
Here at Blogger So Dear, we’re interested in seeing what kinds of drinks people may be enjoying tonight. Once you get settled in for some basketball and Selection Sunday coverage tweet us your versions of the John Collins @BloggerSoDear. It doesn’t have to be exactly the recipe above and let’s be honest, any drink you have today can and should still be named a John Collins in honor of our venerable dunkmaster and overall stud.
If you have any drink-related questions, you can let us know but more importantly if you have any Wake Forest basketball related questions we may be better equipped to answer those questions.
Today should be a fun day for Wake fans and for the first time in seven years I think we’re going dancin’! This deserves a drink. As always, go Deacs.
