The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are headed back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010! There The Deacs will be in the play-in game as a No. 11 seed, where they will take on fellow No. 11 seed, Kansas State at approximately 9:10 p.m. ET on Tuesday evening. The winner of that matchup will take on No. 6 Cincinnati in Sacramento on Friday. Here’s a quick hitter of the matchup.
Wake Forest finished the regular season and ACC Tournament with an overall record of 19-13, including 10-10 in ACC play (regular season plus ACC Tournament), and are currently ranked 30th in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings. They overcame every preseason expectation, whether it be by the ACC media members, Ken Pomeroy’s preseason ratings, or even the expectations of this staff. Danny Manning inherited a very difficult situation, yet has the program back in the NCAA Tournament in just his third year at the helm thanks to recruiting and player development. The Deacons went just 11-20 last season, including 2-17 in ACC games. What a difference a year makes!
Kansas State competes in the Big 12 conference and finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-13, including 9-11 in conference play. They are ranked 29th in Ken Pom and that game will essentially be a toss up. Personally, I think it’s ridiculous that it wasn’t one of Wake Forest/Kansas State vs. one of Providence/USC, but it is what it is.
