2017 Wake Forest Football Recruiting: Favorite Defensive Prospect

Part II of our football recruiting roundtable.

NCAA Football: Army at Wake Forest Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Question: Which defensive player are you most excited about?

Cam: Michael Allen. Imagine, right now, a 6'6, 241 lb person coming at you who has a 40 time a hair over 5 seconds. While we're accustomed to only really recognize sub 4.40 as fast, someone being that big should not be able to run 40 yards in 5 seconds. And he's only going to get bigger and stronger. Allen is the definition of a high motor kid and I expect him to make an impact, a big one

Elijah: Since I don't want to use Michael Allen multiple times, I'll go with Tyriq Hardimon, a late flip from Cal to the Deacs. Personally, I'm a big fan of recruiting players from football rich states that play at big programs since I truly believe it gives players an edge coming into the fold. Hardimon comes from Georgia, a breeding ground for good football talent. We shall see how Hardimon adjusts to the college game but I believe he has a bright future in the secondary.

Grumpy: It's gotta be Mike Allen. This class is bringing in a lot of hard hitters on defense, but Mike Allen is a beast at 6'6" and 240lbs. He has 29 FBS offers, putting him in the top 100 players on RankByOffers. Those aren't kids that historically are flocking to Wake, so I'm excited to see what he can do.

Riley: I would be lying if I said anybody other than Michael Allen. He is one of the best recruits Wake has ever landed according to 247 Sports. I think he will have a chance to learn from Duke Ejiofor and be a playmaker on the field as soon as he gets out there.

Rob: I’m very excited about Chase Monroe and believe that he can make an impact from day one. He was incredibly productive in high school and was named North Carolina Defensive Player of the Year this past fall. He is a consensus 3-star prospect and Wake Forest beat out the likes of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Mississippi State for the young man. He’s very athletic and will provide excellent run support for the Deacs. I would not be surprised if he played as a true freshman.
