Dave Clawson secured the verbal commitment of Waydale Jones one week ago and today the wide receiver made it official. Waydale Jones, a 6’4” wide receiver out of Beeville, Texas, verbally committed to Wake Forest on Wednesday evening. His commitment came just several days after taking an official visit to Wake Forest. What will he bring to the table?
Welcome Waydale! Big and athletic WR from Texas. Thrilled to have Waydale as a Deacon! #GoDeacs pic.twitter.com/Lu6rtgBUgr

Jones is rated as a 3-star by 247 Sports and chose Wake Forest over offers from Vanderbilt, San Diego State, and Boise State. Waydale put up insane numbers during his senior campaign, as he hauled in 115 receptions for 1,979 yards, and 30 touchdowns. As a result, he was named 1st-team all state. In addition to those video game numbers, his Hudl page lists that he runs a 4.4. 40-yard dash and has a 3.99 GPA.
This is a very good late addition to the 2017 recruiting class. He has an excellent combination of size and speed. Not only can he go up and catch jump balls, but he’s capable of catching screen passes and then making defenders miss. He might need to redshirt this season to add on muscle, but I’m excited about his Wake Forest career.
Please join me in welcoming Waydale to Wake!
