The Deacs took care of business this weekend, defeating the Richmond Spiders in blowout fashion by a score of 82-53. Seeing as this one was never really in doubt, I decided we should just take a quick look at just 1 play — the inbounds play alley oop to Melo Eggleston.
This is a great inbounds play that uses a couple of screens to get an easy look right at the rim. Let’s break it down.
Eggleston sets a pick for Doral Moore, who runs off the screen and looks for the pass underneath (unfortunately he falls down). After setting the screen, Eggleston just loops back around a Terrence Thompson screen and heads straight down the lane. Eggleston’s man, De’Monte Buckingham (11), runs right into Thompson, and no one switches onto Melo. Crawford throws a perfect pass to the rim and Eggleston flushes it for an easy 2 points. Great play design by Danny Manning and fantastic execution by the Deacs.
