3* Defensive End Rondell Bothroyd has officially signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Wake Forest football program. Bothroyd is ranked by 247sports as the 4th best player in the state of Connecticut and was a versatile player in high school on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
He was originally committed to Temple prior to an official visit two weeks ago, which went well enough that he decided to flip his pledge over to the Demon Deacons. It is the 2nd year in a row Wake has flipped a Temple commit just a few weeks before National Signing Day. Last year, Ja'Sir Taylor switched over to the Deacs and proceeded to play in every regular season game as a true freshman.

Bothroyd earned offers from Boston College, UConn, Temple, and others before deciding to call Wake Forest home. At 6'3 250 and agile, Bothroyd is an incredible athlete that has major upside at the next level. He was the "do it all" X-Factor for E.O Smith High (CT) last year, but made a name for himself rushing the Quarterback and wreaking havoc in the backfield. The stat below from Director of Recruiting for 247sports emphasizes that notion:
Willington (Conn.) Smith DE Rondell Bothroyd commits to #WakeForest. He's had 24.5 sacks in 19 games over the last two seasons: https://t.co/5ZwhLPACRR https://t.co/0vMzvIuG6f

I am personally very excited about Rondell's future in the Black and Gold given his size and position flexibility. He seems like a player that will find a way to play early in his career whether its at DE, TE, Special Teams, or somewhere else on the field. Congratulations on your commitment and welcome to the family, Rondell!
