It took the Wake Forest football staff some time, but they eventually got their class of 2018 running back in December. On December 5th, Courtney McKinney decommitted from Appalachian State, and verbally committed to Wake Forest while after his official visit to Winston-Salem. McKinney is 6’2”, 200 pounds, and is a 3-star prospect out of East Montgomery High School in Biscoe, North Carolina. 247 Sports composite ranks him as the 64th best running back in the country.
East Montgomery (NC) RB Courtney McKinney just committed to #WakeForest. Rushed for 2,463 yds and 27 TDs as a senior after hitting 2,730 yards and 39 TDs as a junior. Good speed, physical, will be one of the best backs in the #ACC: https://t.co/VEJZHpVW1f @MichaelClark247 https://t.co/NO17mRApa1

McKinney had a stellar senior campaign for East Montgomery. He carried the ball 262 times for 2,463 rushing yards (9.4 yards/carry) and 27 touchdowns. It’s always encouraging when scouts such as Steve Wiltfong endorse your favorite team’s newest running back. It’s easy to see why scouts like him so much, as he has excellent size combined with a 4.48 40-yard dash time and great productivity. Wake has added a lot of talented backs in recent years, and McKinney will add even more depth to a solid backfield.
