Nasir Greer Signs With Wake Forest

Another promising young athlete has signed with Wake Forest University, this time in the form of 3* DB Nasir Greer

NFL: Chicago Bears at Cincinnati Bengals Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

EDIT: The majority of this article was written earlier this year by the wonderful Ned Harwood. I’ll add some of my own thoughts at the bottom.

2018 Georgia Safety Nasir Greer received an offer earlier this year from Dave Clawson and his staff as a Defensive Back. It took him just 4 days to decide Winston-Salem was where he wanted to call home starting next year.

The talented 3* prospect chose the Deacs over Air Force, Army, James Madison, Kent State, WKU, and Ohio. His offer list had grown substantially since May 20th, receiving 7 scholarships to various FBS and FCS schools before pouncing on the opportunity to become a Demon Deacon months ago.

In terms of rankings, Greer is rated as a 3* prospect and #917 in 247sports’ 2018 prospect list. He currently is not rated on Rivals.com’s system, but that will undoubtedly change as the summer continues to roll on and his name becomes more well known. Greer’s highlight video looks incredibly similar to Jessie Bates’ out of high school featuring a number of well-read interceptions and big hits coming out of the FS position. He was a star defensive player for Stockbridge HS last season, which went 13-1 and was a Top 5 team in Georgia’s AAAAA classification. Playing against some of the best prospects in talent-rich Georgia week-in and week-out will only help Greer become the type of player Jay Sawvel is looking for at the next level.

Wake Forest now has 13 commits for its 2018 class and only a few slots open for any remaining targets. The Deacs are currently ranked 40th in the 247sports composite rankings with NC State, Michigan State, South Carolina, and UVA nearby. With the FS spot now filled, RB and TE remain top priorities as we head into the latter summer months. Expect a list of key 2018 targets to track for the rest of the recruiting cycle up on BSD sometime next week.

With so many 2018 commits choosing the Deacs shortly after receiving their offers, it just goes to show the rise in excitement prospects have now when they receive that phone call from Wake Forest. In past years, players with similar offer lists might wait to see if anything else comes along, but now recruits are jumping at the possibility of becoming a part of this program and don’t want to wait too long for fear of someone else taking their spot. He has now officially signed, so there’s no more doubt on that front.

Welcome to the family and congratulations on your commitment, Nasir! We look forward to cheering you on at BB&T for many years to come in the Black and Gold.

SF’s Thoughts: Greer seems like another baller. This is exciting, because with players like Cameron Glenn graduating, our secondary needs boosting, and commits like Greer will almost surely do just that. His offer list might not be the sexiest, but where he played and the fact that he was picking up a ton of attention just before committing says a lot.
